Patterns and colours decorative identity

What is pattern and decoration?

It has been defined by Judy Chicago and Faith Ringgold in 2016, as a contrary to what we might think when we look at it, an art of subject matter: in the most limited sense, the subject is visual experience which is one of sensory delight and of a decorative aesthetic.  On this level of experience, pattern and decoration art does not seem to have that much to say.

On another level, the subject is the assertion of new identities which are formed through the use of art experiences that have traditionally been relegated to the borderlands of culture or subjugated in some way on this level.

What is Art?

Art is language in a very literal sense;
if art is language, then art can be analyzed in terms of linguistic or structural principles;
if art is language or a discourse, then what is being said may be more important than who is saying it.

Pattern and kids:

While the use of patterns can be diverse. one of it is uses is to teach kids and motivate them through the mix between shapes, colours, and  lines. “Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.” Pablo Picasso

This say encouraged Kim Grace to start her journey at working with kids, her mission was to teach the kids  in the Kindergarten classes about  wind so the final project was to make patterned windsocks.

Introduce the kids to work by hand, using coloured lines.

Work process:

  1. Pattern: practice pattering (using line and shape). “line practice- Straight, curved, thick, thin.”
  2. Exploring colour and line: Create an abstract line “collaboration”, using coloured sticks. and collage using coloured paper lines on black background.

Abstract Line Collaborations.

Art is the picture of all empires, civilizations and cultures, through architecture, sculptures, drawings , and special patterns we can consider and understand the situation of each folk, and determinate in which piece of our world they used to live, what are there limits, fears, lifestyle, and there sense of art.

The most important idea is that by looking back in the history we will discover how the art had been developed from century to century depending on the people at that age, where they lived and what there materials. while the use of art nowadays crossed the boundaries to become a way of developing the teaching techniques to become the theory itself.
